CanFest Reno 2012 Wrap-up

What can I say about CanFest 2012? I had heard this is a fun festival from friends and I had heard to be ready for a good time but wow the folks from Silver Legacy and The Abbi Agency put on a kick ass beer festival.  This was my first trip toReno so I had no ideas of what to really expect and well after I left I was impressed.  I loved Reno.  Great atmosphere, people and damn the beer scene is killer.

Friday night brewer’s event we all met up at the Imperial Bar & Lounge and had a great time meeting and greeting all the brewers that attended. Oh it was rough I had to drink all the wonderful canned beer. Mammoth brewing brought out their IPA.  Moab brewing had a Johnny’s IPA and there Dead Horse Amber in cans we got to try.  It was a great time and meeting brewers for me is like drugs they all rock.

Saturday we got an early start and the local homebrew club (IMBIB – Independent Master Brewers of Innumerable Beverages) took a few of us around to check out Renobefore the night’s festivities.  We hit several places.  Brasserie Saint James – Brand new brewery just opened a few weeks ago.  We also hit Rebel Malting one of very few independent Micro Malter.  Then it was off to Silver Peak Brewing and last but no least Great Basin Brewing the newly acquired facility.  This was a great tour and then to add a festival for the night we better charge our batteries.

CanFest started at 5pm and from the moment they opened the doors it was a great time.  They had over 30 different brewers 75+ beers and tons of great music and people.  The venue at the Silver Legacy was perfect just the right amount of room and looks to be more room available for more brewers.  They had a picture wall to take pictures of course that was full.  Great times, great people I can see this festival growing every year.

The people choice award was given at the end of the night.
1st -AndersonValley Brewing Company
2nd – Oskar Blues

Reno- The biggest little city I was impressed with the whole entire festival, and people running the event.  Note – To win this awesome trip I had to go up against a great friend Gerard with Road Trips for Beer. In honor of Gerard I took along “Lil Can G” you can see in the pictures below. I missed you buddy.
