The Washington Brewers Guild presents
2015 WINTER BEER FESTIVAL
December 4 & December 5 – Hangar 30 at Magnuson Park
(Seattle, WA) Washington Brewers Guild will celebrate the season with a wide variety of winter seasonal beers at its annual Winter Beer Festival on Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5 at the Hangar 30 in Magnuson Park. The event is a fundraiser for the Guild, a non-profit organization whose mission is to build a community of Washington brewers, advance their common interests through the legislative process and promote the quality and value of Washington Beer.
Winter Beer Festival is known for its extensive seasonal offerings from local breweries and this year’s event is no exception. The beer lineup includes many big, dark, robust and well-aged beers. In addition with the beer names like Party like it’s Winter 2009! and Old Toe Jam Barleywine, it is undoubtedly one of the most fun, high-spirited beer festivals around. The brewers get to show their playful side by using holiday-inspired ingredients such as candy canes, cranberries, nuts, and molasses in their beers, and also by embellishing their booths with over-the-top decorations, turning the humble Hangar into a dazzling holiday spectacle.
Here are some of the highlights of this year’s Winter Beer Festival:
Beer—the event will feature over 160 beers by 54 Guild member breweries, mostly winter seasonal brews. There will be PNW winter classics such as Cabin Fever (Boundary Bay Brewery), Old Scrooge (Silver City Brewery), Winterfish (Fish Brewing) and Industrial Ho!Ho! (Diamond Knot Brewing) and many Winter Warmers, Stouts, Barleywines, barrel-aged and imperial versions that are full-bodied and flavored, designed to keep us warm during the cold months. A complete beer list is available at www.washingtonbrewersguild.org/Events.html.
Booth decorations—at this event the brewers are known to take their booth presentation just as seriously as their beer. Expect them to go all out with colorful decorations, bright lights, whimsical animated figures and even some brewers in costumes. They are perfect accompaniments to the festive winter beers.
People’s Choice Awards— People’s Choice Awards will be presented to favorite beers and best booth decorations at the end of each session to reward the brewers’ hard work. Last year No-Li Brewhouse made a clean sweep and won the first place for favorite beer for all three sessions with their Vanilla and Coffee infused Rise and Grind.
Food— There will be a few beer-friendly treats to nibble. Dark, malty winter seasonal beers and chocolates are a match made in heaven. Tease Chocolates will be sampling handcrafted single origin bars, truffles, toffees and some chocolatey delights made with beer from Wingman Brewers. The Brewmaster’s Bakery will be sampling granola made with spent grain from some of the participating breweries. Sockeye Catering will expertly pair fresh, local raw oysters with various beers. In addition a few food trucks will serve up hearty dishes to complement the beer.
Winter Beer Festival will host three sessions; from 5pm to 9pm on Friday, December 4 and noon to 4pm and 5:30pm to 9:30pm on Saturday, December 5 in the Hangar 30 at Magnuson Park. Admission is $30 in advance or $35 at the door, if tickets are still available. Separate tickets are required for each session. Admission includes a commemorative tasting glass and ten 4oz beer tastes. Advance tickets are available online at www.washingtonbrewersguild.org and at select ticket outlets. Some of the sessions are expected to sell out prior to the event so advance purchase is strongly recommended. This is a 21-and-over-only event.
