Churchkey Can Company – Launches

Back in 1935 the first canned Beers came out and it has been either a love affair ever since.  It was Jan 24, 1935, that the first canned beer went on sale to the general public when Krueger’s Finest Beer went on sale inRichmond,Virginia.  When I go back in the way back machine I remember my start of beer drinking using only canned beers – push tops.  It made it much easier to get rid of than the big old brown bottles.  Smash the can and stuff them in the walls of the college dorms.  No need to thank me the college (Named withheld for statue of limitations issues) dorm I stayed at yes I insulated the walls for you.

If you go back and I can for some reason remember that Grandpa was using a church key to open his beers at one time.  Maybe he just longed for the old days but I do remember they also had a pull tab and he was like well that makes no since when you have a perfectly good church key to use. Where is that tab going to go on the ground I already pick up way too many on the street.  Was grandpa ahead of his time forward thinking and environmental?  Hell no he was just lazy and loved the feel of the church key in his hand.

Why do I go nostalgic today? Well there is a new beer out there that is made to bring simplicity and the old times back. Churchkey Can Company brings you a beer that is perfect for those hot summer days when you do yard work, play in the park or find yourself at the beach.  I was able to go to a launching at Kings Hardware – Ballard, last night and taste the terrific new Pacific Northwest Pilsner  made for the tin can and only has one way to open that’s right a Church key.  The Owners Adrian Greiner and Justin Hawkins where chatting one night and said “Why not bring back something people have not seen in years.”  They got together with a few Portland Homebrewers Lucas Jones and Sean Burke and they had an idea. Brewed in Seattle at Two Beers Brewing this is a terrific new brew with a old time simple feel.  I was so surprised when I put my hands around that strong tin can.  Yep it was just like when Grandpa gave me my first sip of brew.  Cheers to Churchkey Can Company and best of luck in your new venture.
