Bitter as Ever: Airways Brewing Company’s Sky Hag IPA Celebrates Second Anniversary with Bottle Release & Party
Sky Hag IPA becomes second packaged product for Airways Brewing as craft beer fans celebrate the bitter broad in all her glory
KENT, Wash. (October 24, 2012) – Airways Brewing Company® – a growing microbrewery located just south of Seattle in Kent – is proud to celebrate the second anniversary of its flagship beer with the introduction of 22-ounce bottles of Sky Hag IPA®. The second packaged product to be offered by the quickly expanding brewery, bottles of Sky Hag IPA will available for early release on the popular beer’s anniversary, October 31, at the Airways Brewing Tap Room in Kent. Airways Brewing fans and craft beer enthusiasts are invited to celebrate and raise a glass of this IPA that evening.
“This beer is a salute to a true American aviation icon, the Sky Hag, applauding the battle-hardened, bitter women of the sky,” said Alex Dittmar, Airways Brewing Company founder and brewer. “We’re excited how popular it has become and can’t wait to make it available on a wider scale.”
Brewed with Pacific Northwest grown malted barley and Columbus hops, Sky Hag IPA is as bitter as the women it represents, featuring an impressive 99 IBUs and 7.8 percent ABV. Originally brewed as a five-gallon test batch of imperial IPA in October 2010, Sky Hag became a happy mistake when it was forgotten behind the bar and conditioned a bit longer than expected. Customers were so impressed with how it turned out that Alex decided to make it the first new beer added to Airways Brewing’s regular line up since opening. Sweet on the tongue with a distinct and intense bitter finish, a generous dose of dry hopping gives this beer its distinctive citrus aroma.
On Wednesday, October 31 from 3 to 9 pm, patrons are invited to celebrate Sky Hag in all her glory at the Airways Brewing Brewery & Tap Room. In addition limited edition versions of Sky Hag – including Ol’ Wooden Hag (Sky Hag aged on toasted oak chips) and Sky Hag run through a Randall – a Sky Hag costume contest will award those who best portray a likeness of the iconic Airways Brewing Sky Hag mascot (all Halloween costumes are welcome; available prizes for first, second and third place winners to be announced via Airways Brewing’s Facebook and Twitter accounts leading up to event). For those who forget to dress up, a photo booth with Sky Hag costume props will be up and running all night. The first bottles of Sky Hag IPA will also be available for purchase.
Bottles of Sky Hag IPA will be available throughout the Seattle-Tacoma area beginning Friday, November 2 at specialty beer stores including 99 Bottles, All Things Wine, Beer Junction, Big Star Beers, Chucks 85th St. Market, Dog N Pony, Full Throttle Bottle, Pike Grocery, Malt and Vine, Special Brews and The Red House.
In addition to bottles of Sky Hag IPA and its Final Departure Imperial Stout, Airways Brewing Company offers several year-round and seasonal offerings on tap, available at both Airways Beer & Bistro and Airways Brewing Tap Room, as well as in bars and restaurants throughout the Seattle-Tacoma area.
