Saturday, December 12, 2015 will be Black Sun Day in Tacoma. In celebration of our third year anniversary, we will be releasing a limited number of bottles of Black Sun Bourbon Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout. The bottles were printed by hand and no two are alike. The stout was aged in JP Trodden bourbon barrels for 18 months. On tap at the event, will be four variations of Black Sun made with coffee, chili, licorice, and cocoa nibs. $20/bottle (22 ounce). Guests may purchase a limited edition taster glass which comes with 6 tasting tickets for $20. Special guest beers will also be on tap for the event. The Rolling Crust will be on hand making pizza with their portable wood fired oven. A portion of proceeds from the event will go to benefit The Foundation for Tacoma Students, a Tacoma community non-profit.
Black Sun 2015 is a refined Russian Imperial Stout aged in JP Trodden bourbon barrels for over 18 months. The huge size of this beer is belied by a light mouthfeel, low sweetness level, and very little alcohol burn. Flavors of cherry, chocolate, malt, molasses, oak, port wine, on the palate – and of course, tons of bourbon.
