HiFi Brewing – New Year, New Beer!
We’re excited about the year ahead, and we’re kicking it off this weekend with two new beers! Read on for more about our Belgian-by-way-of-Spain and Latin-loving sour, both coming Saturday, January 17th…
AVAILABLE JAN 17, 2015:
DIABLO IN DISGUISE
We host the annual X-BREW home brewing competition, and one of the many perks for us is that we get to pick one of the entries to “go pro.” We chose a Belgian golden strong ale from a panel of many great entries, and we were pleasantly surprised to find out it was brewed by High Frequency Society member Dioni Morales. Many breweries include references to the devil in the name when they brew this type of beer, referring to its potent alcoholic strength and as a tribute to the original example (Duvel). We uphold the tradition, while simultaneously honoring the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll and Dioni’s Spanish heritage, by calling this one “Diablo in Disguise.”

QUERCUS ET CERASUS
One of the reasons we’re so excited about 2015 is because Beertender Dale and Assistant Brewer Zach have a series of small-batch sour beer collaborations planned. The first one is a Flanders Red Ale. It was sour mashed with Lactobacillus Brevis, and aged on Pinot Noir soaked oak-spirals; dried Bing cherries; and dried figs. It’s well-balanced and approachable, yet complex and tart enough to satisfy the sour heads. Why Latin? Because that’s the language Flemish monks would have spoken when they developed this style in the 1700s.
