The Fort George Brewery in Astoria, OR is ready to throw down for the most intense Stout Beer Fest ever. The 2nd Annual Festival of Dark Arts will take place all over the Fort George Brewery campus with 46 Stout beers scattered throughout the Fort George Public House, Lovell Brewery, Taproom and Showroom (Dark Arts Gallery).
For the first time EVER, Fort George will alter its Public House vibe for a full-on Carnival of Stout. The booths and tables will be removed, and the stage will be set. Gallivant throughout the brewery block while sipping on exclusive stouts, and navigate through the maze of entertainment. The Stout Stage in the Public House will hold the likes of Portland’s Blue Skies for Black Hearts, and the Builders and the Butchers.
This will mark the release of Barrel Aged Cavatica Stout in Limited Edition 4-Packs, to be acquired in-house only. The unique packaging will serve as the transportation for these covert cans and suggests the theme: Dark. Each year, a different vintage will be released for the festival. The 2013 version has been aged in Heaven Hills Rye Whiskey Barrels and comes with a bizarre story to boot! These beers are designed to age phenomenally.
The Dark Arts Gallery has been adorned with art from Astoria’s righteous art scene. The gallery will be a “cash and carry” event where spectators can purchase the art, and pull it right off the wall. In conjunction, the first ever “Terrarium Invitational” has populated the barrel tops throughout the showroom. Artists include: Shane Bugbee, Vinnie Steele, Sally Lackaff, Natalie Orr, Eva Kirk, Kim Waites, Mariah Manners, Jessica Schleif, Martin Garrison, Jamie Boyd, Linden, Brendan Harper, Colour Gorsuch, Roger Hayes and Agnes Field.
The Dark Arts Gallery Stage in the Lovell Showroom will provide audio and visual art throughout the day. Performances will be held by Cheyne Stoecks, Kites at Night, John Berendzen, Jupiter and Marco Davis, Gregg Skloff, The Easter Island Project, Birch Book/In Gowan Ring, The Sun & Moon Ensemble, Var’yin Parham & Jessamyn Grace, and World Renowned Tuvan Throat Singer, Soriah. In between sessions, The Columbia River Sound Map will entertain your ears with a 3-D transportation to various areas of the Columbia River.
In the Lovell Brewery, visitors can get their tarot cards read by Portland’s Psychic Siamese Terror, witness Stout Painting from “The Beer Painter,” Karen Eland, blown glass from Fernhill Glass, get an old-time photo from Clement Photography, get inked by Hold Fast and Keepsake Tattoo companies, or make a hand-forged iron bottle opener with the Solstice Forge.
Fort George brewers will also be participating in Zwickelmania by offering brewery tours every hour on the hour with exclusive tastes of fermenting beers right out of the tank.
