Annual festival to celebrate the connection between protecting upper watersheds and making superior downstream beer
Washington Wild is excited to announce that the third annual Brewshed® Beer Fest will be held on Saturday, June 4th at Hale’s Ales Palladium. This exciting annual event brings together breweries from around the state to highlight the Brewshed® Connection, protected water makes superior downstream beer.
The Brewshed ® Alliance has grown substantially from three years ago when it included 8 brewery partners mostly inside the Seattle area with just a handful of events. Today, the Brewshed® Alliance boasts nearly 40 breweries and community partners from around Washington State, hosts over 30 events a year and has raised tens of thousands of dollars annually for Washington Wild’s nonprofit work to protect intact forests, watersheds and sources of clean water.
“We hope this will be the largest and most successful Brew Fest yet.” says Lyndsay Gordon, Brewshed® Program Manager for Washington Wild. “This is a chance for those who love great local beer and wild places to sample some of the best Washington craft beer while making a difference at the same time.”
Washington Wild works hard to find common ground, both with those that are natural and assumed and those who are nontraditional allies alike, in support of protecting wild lands and waters throughout the state. Washington Wild’s Brewshed Alliance helps people make the connection between protected waters and superior downstream beer.
“Our product- and subsequently our business- relies on our water source staying pure and clean, so naturally we want to voice our support of Washington Wild, Alpine Lakes and the Brewshed® Alliance,” said Pamela Brulotte of Icicle Brewing Company. In December of 2014, after 7 years of hard work on the part of Washington Wild and many other organizations, the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Additions was passed into law, which protects Icicle Creek – Icicle Brewing Company’s water source.
This will be the third annual Brewshed® Beer Fest, but the first time the event will be on a Saturday. Gordon says the change of the day of the week is only one of the surprises in the works for their signature Brewshed® event. Dave Grochocki, who attended the event last year as a volunteer, said, “The Brewshed® Beer Fest is great, not just because it is a fun event, but because it also supports protections for the wild places that make Washington State such a unique and amazing place to live.”
Last year the Brew Fest was held on the day the Wild Olympics legislation was introduced into Congress by Senator Patty Murray and Representative Derek Kilmer. That legislation would protect 126,000 acres of new Wilderness on Olympic National Forest and 460 miles of Wild and Scenic Rivers on the Olympic Peninsula. This year at the festival patrons will be celebrating the fact that last month the legislation received a congressional hearing by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee for the first time.
