AMERICAN BREWING COMPANY re-releases GABF-award winning Brave American Brown Ale
Edmonds,WA– Skip Madsen has brewed only one 30 barrel batch of the Brave American Brown Ale in celebration of the one-year anniversary of it’s winning a Bronze medal at the Great American Beer Festival.
The festival, held in every year in October, is the largest in the world – comparing upwards of 4,000 beers in 83 different categories. The 2011 Great American Beer Festival competition winners were selected by an international panel of 169 expert judges from a record number of 3,900 entries received from 522U.S.breweries.
American Brewing Company was recognized last year in the American Style Brown Ale category for it’s brown, a beer brewed in collaboration with Warren Peterson, former sous chef for Tom Douglas’s Brave Horse Tavern.
Brewer Madsen was excited at the initial prospect: “Warren was really into brewing and wanted to see if we could make a beer for the Brave Horse – a hoppy brown. I said, ‘I can do that – hops are my middle name!’”
The Brave American Brown Ale is copper-brown in color with a toasted caramel flavor; a noticeable but not overpowering hop aroma rounds out the sweetness. The balanced bitterness transitions to a clean finish, with hints of citrus from dry-hopping. According to assistant brewer Dan Payson, “it’s an excellent beer that can be paired with a lot of different styles of food – particularly grilled dishes, smoked meats, and American cuisine.
In addition to the GABF win, American Brewing Company has garnered myriad awards since the brown’s debut last year. “Since the bronze at GABF, I think that the number of honors and accolades we’ve been able to amass is amazing,” said owner Neil Fallon. “Being included in the Savor Craft Beer and Food event, our involvement in the Capitol Hill Beer Tasting in DC, and our win at the Tacoma Craft Beer Festival shows everyone’s dedication and our ability to get involved in the industry as a whole. I am excited about where everything is going.”
Along with being re-entered in the 2012 GABF, the anniversary brew can be found on tap exclusively at the Brave Horse Tavern and American Brewing Company’s tasting room through the month of October.
