Lompoc Brewing Announces Black Out Beer Fest on Feb. 22 
Come over to the Dark Side and enjoy a dozen dark beers; event is a prelude to the 7th annual Chowder Challenge
PORTLAND, Ore. – Lompoc Brewing will host the Black Out Beer Fest on Friday, Feb. 22 from 4 to 11pm at the Fifth Quadrant, 3901 N Williams Ave. The Black Out Beer Fest will feature a dozen dark beers from Lompoc and special guests Breakside Brewing, Columbia River Brewing Co, The Green Dragon and Widmer Brothers Brewing Co. Beers will be served throughout the Fifth Quadrant Pub, Sidebar Barrel Tasting Room, the Brewery bar and in the tented parking lot. There will also be live music and food specials. Admission into the event is free.
On tap from Lompoc will be 2008 Bourbon Barrel Aged Pagan Porter, 2009 Le Chat Noir, 69 Baltic Porter, Bourbon Barrel Aged 69 Baltic Porter, Rosemary Stout, 2011 Monster Mash, 2011 Bourbon Barrel Aged Monster Mash. The event will also featured the release of Lompoc’s Cherry Stout, aged for 16 months in Merlot barrels with 45 pounds of sour cherries.
Breakside is sending Dry Stout, an award-winning Irish-style stout brewed in the tradition of Guinness. Widmer is sending Imperial O’Ryely’s Dark, made to showcase what a little dark malt, more hops and higher ABV would be like in its current Rotator IPA release, O’Ryely IPA. Green Dragon and Columbia River are sending beers that are yet to be named.
Live music will be provided by Marty Marquis, a local musician best known for his work as a multi-instrumentalist and hype man with Portland band Blitzen Trapper. His live renditions of his song “Jericho” have long been favorites among Blitzen fans the world over. Additionally, his cowbell-playing for the group has been heralded as “virtuosic.” Marquis will play from 7 to 9:30pm in the tented parking lot.
The Black Out Beer Fest is a preview to the 7th annual Chowder Challenge, which will take place at the Fifth Quadrant on Feb. 23 from Noon to 4pm. The blind tasting competition pits the clam chowder from a dozen area restaurants and brewpubs against each other to determine who wins the coveted Chowder Cup. The participating guest breweries at the Black Out Beer Fest are also contestants at the Chowder Challenge. The event is a fundraiser for Portland’s Community Transitional School, which provides important educational services to children who are homeless or otherwise at risk of school failure.
