2nd ANNUAL BAKER’S DOZEN—FEATURING 13 COFFEE BEERS, ROASTERS, & LOCAL DOUGHNUTS—DUNKS SAT., MARCH 12
Culmination Brewing Once Again Hosts Hedonistic Beer Fest
Beervana, OR, Jan. 27, 2016 – The Second Annual Baker’s Dozen is Portland’s, and the world’s, only coffee beer and doughnut festival. It features three things Portland does best: beer, coffee, and doughnuts. In a city with as many coffee roasters as there are craft brewers, the marriage of the two is a natural pairing, that itself pairs majestically with doughnuts. The brunch time festival takes place at Culmination Brewing Co. (2117 NE Oregon St.), named as one of the best/must-visit breweries in Portland by the likes of Serious Eats, Travel Portland, Beervana, The New School, and The Pour Fool. The fest takes place Saturday, March 12, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are limited to 400 (to ensure attendees can sample everything) and are available for $24 ($27 at the door) at
Merctickets.com/go/BakersDozenPDX
Paid admission includes a 4-ounce sample of every unique coffee-infused beer and every delectable doughnut morsel (most will be quartered). Beer by the glass will be available a la carte. Each beer incorporates a different local roaster’s beans in unique ways. Pairings are not proprietary. Rather, people are encouraged to find their own favorite bites with the coffee beers of their choosing. Perhaps “Double Stack,” a maple-coffee stout from brand new Great Notion Brewing goes best with the cinnamon-brûléed French Toast mini doughnut from Donut Byte Labs, the new doughnut truck on West Burnside. Or will attendees favor washing down their cherry fritter from Joe’s Donuts with a swig of Primeval Knievel, the coffee-infused brown ale from Baerlic Brewing? And yes, that’s right, save the drive to Sandy because the de rigueur pit stop en route to the slopes of Mt. Hood will be available at the fest. Stay tuned for the beer event founder Brian Yaeger will help design and brew at another brand new company, Labrewatory. In all, 10 of the participating breweries are from Portland, plus Portland’s new (and only) mead maker, Stung Fermented (whose honey wine will grace the ginger doughnuts from Staccato Gelato), and two coffee beers from amazing breweries outside Oregon: Coffee Ruckus from Wyoming’s Melvin Brewing (a 13% ABV imperial stout that won a silver medal at last year’s US Open Beer Championship) and, making their Oregon debut, San Diego’s Modern Times Brewing whose Black House stout is made with house-roasted coffee beans that will be available for purchase at the fest.
As an all-ages event, festival-organizers are introducing the Doughnut Decoration Station courtesy of “Double D,” Delicious Donuts (whose apple fritter will be included with each ticket). Cake doughnuts will be available for purchase for young ones and less-young; all proceeds will go to Friends of the Children, Portland providing commitment assistance to at-risk youth. For folks needing savory protein, Culmination Kitchen executive chef Carter B. Owen will have breakfast sandwiches available for sale and several of the roasters will provide complimentary joe.
Many of the festival beers are either new for the festival or have never been available in Portland before. This year’s line-up includes coffee-infused beers from:
Baerlic (with Cellar Door Coffee)
Coalition (with Ristretto Coffee)
Culmination (with Ole Latte Coffee)
Deschutes-Portland (with Nossa Familia Roasters)
Ecliptic (with Caffe Vita)
Great Notion (with Clutch Coffee)
Labrewatory
McMenamins Crystal (with in-house roaster McMenamins Coffee Roasters)
Melvin (using a local Jackson Hole, WY roaster of course)
Modern Times (with in-house roaster Modern Times Coffee)
Old Town (with Stumptown Coffee)
Stung (with Caffe Umbria)
Unicorn pro/am with John Lovegrove (with BadBeard’s Microroastery)
The “doughnuteries” include Annie’s, Blue Star, Coco Donuts, Delicious, Donut-o-rama, Donut Byte Labs, Joe’s Donuts, Pip’s Mobile, Rocking Frog Café, Tonalli’s, Tulip Pastry Shop, and a special creation once again from Stacatto Gelato with Stung Fermented, a honey-mead ginger doughnut hole. Additionally, after myriad collaboration beers, festival organizers Brian Yaeger Presents are assembling some of Portland’s finest doughnut minds to create the world’s first collaboration doughnut. It will only be available at Baker’s Dozen Fest.
