Do I go South I-5 to Portland 100 miles for the Holiday ale festival?  Or do I go 65 miles North I-5 to the Big Wood festival at Brouwers in Seattle? Both of the festivals have tap lists that are off the hook awesome and for most beer geeks it is almost impossible not to go.  Oh wait I just heard theEastside Club Tavern (The Slide as the locals call it) here in Olympia is having a special night.  Wanting to save time, money and gas I decide to stay close to home.  Deschutes Brewing was in town having a promo night and here is what they had on tap for us lucky ones.

Mirror Pond – Yes we have all had this but it is good and tasty.
Obsidian Stout – Cask pour need I say more.
Jubel Ale 2010 – Still as yummy as ever.
Hop in the Dark – Cascadian Dark Ale – Yummy hoppy goodness.
Hop Trip 2010 – Holy Hops batman this is out of this world.
Here’s where it gets really good.
2009 Black Butte XXI – Whiskey aged porter goodness.
2009 Mirror Mirror Barley wine
2008 The Dissident – Flanders Sour brown ale. This is one of the best I have ever had.
Last but certainly not least
2008 Abyss – Imperial Stout – This was the hit of the night.

With a 3 mile drive I was able to have some of worlds best brewed beers.  I must also mention there are 30 other taps at “The Slide” so if none of these beers listed above hit your fancy I am sure you would not go away disappointed with another selection.
