This week I am sure you are aware of the current battle with the State of Washington and the possible raising and extending the beer tax. This is one of the most progressive and highest beer taxes proposed in the country. So I asked the brewers/breweries the following question and below are there answers. I got an overwhelming response so I am posting every reply I received.
The question – The Governors proposed plan is to Extend and Raise the Beer Tax here in WA State. How do you feel this proposal will affect your brewery?
192 Brewing Company –
When I saw what the proposed tax rate would be, I became infuriated. I am very against it. I started pondering the implications of moving the brewery to Oregon where they have designed a very craft friendly state. I would likely keep doing what I am doing, where I am doing it, but future growth might be forced Southward to friendlier places for our pending expansion needs. We can’t currently find a profitable margin that we feel the public will swallow when we consider the costs of doing business in Washington at that proposed tax increase rate. I have already written my letters to my representatives voicing my concerns. The reply I received indicated they did not need my vote in the next election.
