This past weekend at the Washington Winter Ale Festival I got to try some terrific brews by a brand new brewery – Reuben’s Brews.  Located in the Ballard area I have not stopped by “Yet!”  I must say the beers were off the hook. Here is some info about a few of there brews they are just releasing.

Doubloon’s India Wheat Ale: – Our Kickstarter supporters Debby and Steve helped us design and brew this beer, and came up with this great name! This beer is named after the Doubloon Wheaten Terrier dog breed. An India Wheat Ale is a new style featuring wheat malt in the grain bill while still being a heavily hopped IPA. It uses a clean American Yeast strain to let the hops sit prominently on top of the soft, wheat based malt bill.  The hop profile is citrus forward – grapefruit and orange zest – with the bitterness complementing the significant hop presence but maintaining balance with the soft wheat malt. We will tap this brew on Thursday December 6th!

Russian Imperial Stout:  Our RIS is 9.8% ABV with a smooth, full body and lots of chocolate, coffee and roast complexity – perfect for barrel aging. While most of this beer is being aged in bourbon barrels, we safely set aside some kegs of the base beer. We’ll tap just the one keg on Saturday December 15th at noon, and it will be available for tastes in the taproom.  The barrel aged RIS will make its appearance in the new year – probably February / March. Watch this space!

Return of Imperial Rye IPA, Robust Porter and American Rye:  We’re carbonating the Imperial Rye IPA as I write, and we anticipate getting it back in the taproom on Thursday December 13 (although it will be making an appearance at the Winter Beer Fest this weekend!). Check Facebook updates for the exact day it goes on tap, but we’re expecting it to be on next week.  We were initially limited in the amount of this beer we could brew because of a lack of one of the keg hops in the recipe, but now with the 2012 harvest our hop contract is available and we have sufficent hops and we brewed a double batch.  We’re please to be able to say that our Porter and American Rye are also now back on tap in the taproom.
