BrewDad followers last night I decided it was time to do my first pairing with food.  Yes the first and hopefully not the last.  I decided to take baby steps and the first step was with that phenomenal food item that gets so much press every fall.  The McDonalds McRib was first. Yes I took a regular every day average McRib fresh from the drive through drove home and picked out from an array of brews the right beer for this food.

Now the advertised – McRib is made of Pork and BBQ sauce so we will go with that to forgo any arguments.  There are also onions and pickles on a bun with sesame seeds.  I did how ever once returning home have to reheat the McRib as it was a tad cold.

Drum roll please – the winner for the beer I paired with the McRib –
Fish Brewing – Leavenworth Biers Bakke Hill Black Lager.
Brand new brew from the boys in Olympia.
Style:  Alpine style – Seasonal Schwarzbier
Color: Dark Black, clear with a thin off white head
Aroma:  Dark Roasty malts with hints of chocolate and hints of spice
Flavor:  Chocolate, coffee flavors with added vanilla and balanced well with the hops.
Overall:  This is a very distinct and tasty brew.  Balanced well with rich roast and chocolate/coffee flavors. Finish’s quite dry this is a great beer for the weather turning cold.

This beer is one tasty new beer from Fish.  Only available until December be sure to grab one you won’t regret it.

As for the McRib this beer made the sandwich actually bearable. I felt the sandwich was mass produced cooked in a galaxy far away and was an unidentifiable animal source of protein.  Very messy and had too many onions.

Overall – Although I was having fun with the food the beer is a super addition to a great line up of beers from Fish.  Tony Powell and his fellow brewers are kicking out some truly awesome beers.

Here is from the Fish Brewing Website about the name Bakke Hill.
There is no place like Leavenworth during the winter season. Well known for the Bavarian theme and for its festivals, many people don’t realize that Leavenworth is also home to an incredible array of winter activities and recreation. Skiing and snowboarding, Nordic skiing, sleigh rides, snowmobiling, snow tubing and, most importantly, ski jumping.

The hub of winter activity from 1930 thru the 1970’s, Bakke Hill was built in Leavenworth in 1933 and was one of the largest ski jumps in the country. Over the decades, it was enlarged several times and gained a reputation as the most known ski jump in western United States through the hosting of the U.S. American championships. International competitors came to Leavenworth and dazzled the huge crowds by jumping record-breaking lengths of 345 feet. Named originally from the Hall of Famer Magnus Bakke – who helped design the jump – the Leavenworth Ski Hill and surrounding acreage is still used today for downhill skiing, Nordic skiing and lower level jumping competitions.
